He also played as a defender with the Reserves.
He was a member of teams which won the Birmingham & District League in five successive years 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906 and 1907.
He retired after sustaining an injury during training which so seriously dislocated and fractured the index finger of his left hand, that it had to be part amputated.
He returned to Kettering in September 1908 and was signed by Walsall in 1909 where he played 32 games for their Reserves.
He was later coach/trainer at Villa Park.
