He played as an amateur for Villa in a Mid-Week League match on May 7th 1938 and signed professionally at the end of the same month.

The Football League was suspended after 3 games 1939-40. These three matches were later expunged from official records. He didn't play in any of these games but he played in the Harry Hibbs Testimonial Match against Birmingham.
